- 8Export generated text in your chosen format: Plain for Figma and documents, HTML with <p>/<li> tags for web templates, Markdown for README files and documentation, or JSON array for API mock fixtures. Select the format before generating.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Lorem Ipsum?
Lorem Ipsum is dummy text used as placeholder content in design, publishing, and web development. It's derived from a scrambled Latin passage by Cicero (c. 45 BC) and has been the industry standard for placeholder text since the 1500s when a printer rearranged the text for a type specimen book. Its word-length and letter distribution closely resemble natural English, making it ideal for realistic layout previews.
Which style should I use?
Classic Latin is the universal choice for neutral layouts. Use Hipster for lifestyle brands, cafes, and creative portfolios. Corporate is perfect for B2B SaaS mockups and enterprise dashboards. Tech works for developer tools and API documentation. Pirate and Bacon are fun themed options for games, food blogs, or when you want to add personality to internal prototypes.
What's the difference between generation modes?
Paragraphs (3-7 sentences) are for body copy layouts. Sentences (5-15 words) work for headlines, subheads, and card descriptions. Words give you individual tokens for buttons and labels. Characters let you hit exact length targets, perfect for meta descriptions (155 chars), tweets (280 chars), SMS (160 chars), or form fields. List Items generate bullet-point-ready sentences.
Can I customize the vocabulary?
Yes. Select any style and enable the Custom Word Pool option. Enter 10+ comma-separated words or phrases relevant to your project: brand names, product terms, industry jargon. The generator builds natural-sounding sentences from your word pool.
What output formats are supported?
Plain text works everywhere. HTML wraps paragraphs in <p> tags and list items in <li> tags: paste directly into CMS or templates. Markdown uses double-newline separation for paragraphs and dash prefixes for lists, ideal for docs and README files. JSON outputs an array of strings, ready to use in API mock fixtures or data seeding scripts.
How do I copy or save the generated text?
Click the Copy button to copy all text to your clipboard; a checkmark confirms success. Click Save to save as a .txt (Plain), .html (HTML), .md (Markdown), or .json (JSON) file. The filename includes the style and mode so you can keep multiple outputs organized.
What does 'Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet' actually mean?
Nothing, and that is intentional. It is scrambled pseudo-Latin derived from Cicero's 'De finibus bonorum et malorum' (45 BC); the phrase fragments do not form a coherent sentence. 'Dolor sit amet' loosely echoes 'the pain itself' from the original, but the text was deliberately jumbled by 16th-century printers so it would not distract readers. It survives because its word and letter distribution still looks like natural prose, which is exactly what placeholder text needs.
Can I generate funny or themed Lorem Ipsum?
Yes. The Pirate style generates nautical-sounding nonsense ('Arrr, splice the mainbrace'), Bacon generates meat-themed filler, and the Hipster, Corporate, and Tech styles riff on their own vocabularies. If none of them fit, enable Custom Word Pool and type your own funny words or phrases: the generator builds sentences from them.
Can I generate text in Chinese?
This tool generates Latin-character placeholder text. For Chinese dummy text (eg. 占位文本), you can use the Custom Word Pool feature to input Chinese phrases: the generator will build sentences using your characters. For a dedicated Chinese placeholder generator, check our CJK text tools.
What are the smart presets?
Smart presets are one-click configurations for common use cases. Landing Page generates 5 paragraphs of Classic text for hero sections and features. Blog Post gives 3 paragraphs with a Lorem ipsum opening. UI Mockup provides 3 sentences for compact card layouts. Hero Section outputs 25 words for large headline text. Card UI offers 2 short sentences. API Payload creates text that approximates 1,000 bytes for payload testing.
Why does the generated text look repetitive?
Each style draws from a word pool of 60+ words and assembles sentences with a few templates, so short outputs can repeat words; that is expected placeholder behavior, not a bug. Longer outputs vary more. If you need specific vocabulary, enable the Custom Word Pool and enter your own terms (10 or more comma-separated).
Why is Lorem Ipsum in Latin instead of English?
Readable English placeholder is risky in mockups: stakeholders start reading it, and nobody can tell placeholder from final copy. That is why lorem ipsum generator text stays Latin: it keeps the eye on the layout, and its word and letter lengths closely match English, so line breaks behave the same way. If you still want English, pick the Hipster, Corporate, or Tech styles, or feed your own words through the Custom Word Pool.
Why can't I generate the exact same Lorem Ipsum twice?
Most styles pick words randomly from the pool, so every run differs; that is intentional. If you need reproducible output, use the Classic style with 'Start with Lorem ipsum' and a fixed word or paragraph count, or simply save the first result and reuse it. For design mockups that must match, treat the generated text as disposable and copy it once.
